| It’s a legitimate question to ask, “Is discipleship really worth it?” Likewise you may wonder, “Is there any rewards for all my sacrifice and effort for the Lord?” Jesus answers both questions with a resounding, “YES!” I. The Apostles’ Reward. Verse 28 Speaking to the apostles, Jesus said, “You are those who have stood by Me in My Trials; and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” Luke 22.28-30 In Christ’s millennial kingdom the twelve apostles (Matthias having replaced Judas) will sit with Christ in judgment over the nation of Israel. This speaks of God’s sovereignty and His graciousness that He would choose common, ordinary men for such an important task. This also reflects God’s heart for the nation of Israel and its importance in eternity. II. The Adherent’s Rewards. Verses 29-30 “Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.”” Mark 10. 29-30 a. The Disciple’s Earthly Rewards. 1. Forgiveness of sin. 2. The indwelling Holy Spirit. 3. Peace with God, others, yourself. 4. Love received and returned. 5. Security. 6. Purposeful and meaningful life. 7. A very large family. 8. No fear of death. 9. Hope. 10. Joy in spite of circumstances. b. The Disciple’s Eternal Rewards. 1. Blessed and eternal Life. 2. Glorified body. 3. The person of Jesus Christ. 4. Complete freedom. 5. Live in a perfect world. 6. No sin, no evil, no devil. 7. No sickness. 8. No sadness. 9. No hindrance to worship. 10. Recognition for earthly service. So, yes, it is worth it. It is so worth it! Steps to Becoming a Disciple: 1. Admit you are a sinner and in need of God’s mercy. 2. Believe that: a. Jesus Christ is God’s Son. b. He died in your place to pay for your sin. c. He rose from the grave. d. He is able to forgive your sin and give you a new and eternal life. 3. Confess (agree) in prayer that Jesus is God’s Son and you need Him to save you from your sin and give you new life. 4. Dedicate your life to following Him as your Lord and Master. |
